In this way, they would confuse the evil spirit and distract it from its real target. Apparently, it was a dangerous task, thereby displaying a great devotion and loyalty to the bride. Up to now, its role is mainly ceremonial, yet it maintains its importance of the devotion to the bride and is a huge honor.
